Game to keep kids happy and busy while you do a work task
10 years ago when I was planning my wedding, I would have
thought it crazy to suggest that I would have 5 kids age 7 and under and be
working from home---not as a speech therapist…Well, that is what life has
brought and I’m a happy woman for it. Working at home for myself doing Modest Middles has been a blessing! I get to be creative, learn new skills and still
get to be with my kids. Finding time in the day to get necessary work tasks
done can sometimes be a challenge. There are some tasks that just need too much
attention to be done while the kids are awake. Some tasks take longer, but they
can help (like sending out orders at the Post Office---they love to bring up
the envelopes, carry the bag or slide the card). Surprisingly, some tasks I
find that I am actually more efficient with when the kids are a source of time
pressure. We call these “I can work as fast as you tasks”. We’re doing one
right now….I gave kiddos #3 and #4 (the other two are at school) each a piece of
paper and a pencil. I bet them that I could do my typing as fast as they could
draw a picture. I promised them and myself that I would be done when they were.
This strategy has worked wonders. It keeps them busy with a non-TV, non-Video
game task and gives me focused time. I’d love to know of more simple strategies
that work-at-home moms have found effective! Well, time’s up ![]()
