Kids Clean Up, Good Luck =)

I've been trying in these last 6 weeks of pregnancy to get my four kids to clean up after themselves. Now, I realize the oldest is 7 and it's not going to be perfect, but a little help goes a long way as my belly is getting bigger and bending down requires a crane assist to get up. As a speech therapist, I was schooled in the ways of "tangible reinforcers", but as a parent of 4 I have learned the harsh reality that follow through is not as easy as I used to think. A friend talked to me about a "currency" based reward system and I adapted it. I made a list of the necessary daily chores for each kid (e.g., brush teeth, make bed, get dressed, clean room, lay out clothes for the next day). I ask/remind them to do each chore once. If I get to it before they do, they loose a "bedtime minute" on the weekend days. If they do it without being told again, they earn a weekend bedtime minute. The result has been good. They love earning time to stay up on the weekend and if they don't help out they go to bed early, giving me some extra time to relax (I mean get things done). I'm definitely in that pre-pregnancy to do list mode. I've been packaging Modest Middles like mad to keep up with sales the first month after the new baby is born. I love checking my email and seeing where we are sending our nursing tanks today. Thanks to all who have told their pregnant friends about us!
