Extra Baby Weight in My Arms.....Why there?

I was talking to a friend who just had her 5th baby last summer, cooing over how cute he is. My friend is an active and healthy mom with a slender build , but we were talking about how our sense of our bodies is constantly changing with 5 pregnancies. We discussed how we are hardly in any of the after baby pictures for the first 6 months. She pulled out the album for her 5th child and we found that she had managed to escape the camera’s eye EXCEPT for at her son’s baptism. I thought she looked great. She definitely had the “breastfeeding an infant” chest, but her face, legs and backside looked like she hadn’t even had baby. Sadly, mine take several months  to get back to pre-baby state—well at least as close as a 35 yo body can get=). Of course her middle wasn’t a worry because she wears Modest Middles. She pointed out that she hated the pics because she thought she looked heavy. She has a theory as to why…She thinks that upper arm flab paired with the extra boobage gained from nursing made her look broader across the front, thus making her look heavier. I looked at the baptism pics and then looked at a picture from Christmas and I think she might have something. Her arms were never huge, but they were “softer” right after giving birth just from extra baby weight. I looked at my kids’ baptism pics (usually done within 1 month of their birth) and noticed that I definitely fit that pattern. Now, if you don’t live in Phoenix, AZ like I do, you might say, “Just wear a long sleeved shirt. Problem solved.” Not possible in 120 degrees. I looked up some exercises to help tone my arms. Of course I checked that it was ok for me to do with my midwife. I’m hoping that these exercises will help tone up my arms before baby #5’s birthday in 4 weeks! I’d also love to find out if anyone knows what style of shirt will look good on a very busty woman trying to make her arms look lean…..anyone? (just another benefit to wearing Modest Middles nursing undershirts---I can buy the shirt style that will make me look best—Try it out, you’ll love it!)
