Mom-based businesses are popping up everywhere!

Getting work done today at home has been a challenge! The oldest two kids are at school, but Philip and Jillian are stuck playing inside due to the rain we are experiencing here in Phoenix. Normally, they play right outside on our playground as I work on my laptop. Not today. I had a computer issue that I had to work on for Modest Middles and the kids were all wound up. When I started Modest Middles I never thought that selling nursing tank tops would require so much new knowledge in computers, social networking, advertising, etc. I am on the web a lot and between the mom-invented products I see there and the 20 or so moms I know here in Phoenix who run their own businesses I have found so much support and many solutions to issues that have come up for my business. I know that making breastfeeding shirts is a very specific business, but many of the moms in business I know experience the same issues I do. There is a group of us here in Phoenix that are collaborating and brainstorming. This group of women have been invaluable to me! I get calls and emails on a regular basis from moms with a product or business that see me on TV or visit our website and are looking for encouragement. I often refer them to mominventors.com or mommytracked.com, but I think even more helpful is to find out which moms at your child's school or church or soccer team, etc. have a business or sell an original product. They know your hometown market and who is helpful in different areas. My advice....Don't be shy about asking for opinions and recommendations. While another woman's product or experience may not match up with your own, she may say something that prompts you to think of your business in a new way. This strategy continues to work for me! Best of luck to all other moms with ideas and ambition to share them!
