Mommy Brain Cures 6-10

So, not a tighten up topic today, but a "Tensionless Tuesday" topic: Yesterday I put out "Mommy Brain" cures that I had gathered from friends #1-5. Here are #6-10. I'll post more tomorrow! =)

My definition of "Mommy Brain"

As I experience it, “Mommy Brain” is a condition characterized by exhaustion, a feeling of being overwhelmed, overscheduled, and underappreciated…the last on the list. It results from the multiple roles/personalities daily life requires of women who are mothers: wife, mother, school-helper, employee/business owner and individual woman.

6. Take a five minute “escape”. Read a magazine, chapter in a book, etc. to imagine yourself in a faraway place. Try reading a section of a book you have already read and love; it allows you to “escape” into the story quicker and can help you remember details of the story you may have forgotten.

7. Become a “Dancing Queen”. Pop in your favorite CD while doing daily tasks like laundry, dishes, etc. (I’ll bet you can guess my favorite group). Choose songs that make you feel like dancing, singing and smiling. Caution: your kids will love this!

8. Remember your inner woman. Take five minutes to do something you used to enjoy in your “premommy” life. Play the piano, paint/draw, window shop, etc.

9. Talk to your “private chef”. Many women are the primary cook in the home. Try making one meal a week with your favorite entrée and dessert. If the kids (or significant other) doesn’t share your tastes, have a hotdog/chicken nugget choice. You can also treat yourself by picking up a favorite pre-made meal from the grocery store. They are a change from the weekly lunch/dinner menu and YOU DON’T HAVE TO COOK THEM! Think about it: How often do you pick up special items for others?…Grab a treat for yourself.

10. Go on a date. Many of my friends have scheduled “date nights” with their husbands (1-2 times a month). As our family has grown and our oldest entered school, that became more difficult for us. Instead, we’ll have a “mini date.” After getting the kids in bed, pick up a dessert from your favorite restaurant, open a bottle of wine and enjoy each other’s company.
