I get asked on a fairly regular basis about the process we went through to get a patent for Modest Middles Nursing Tank Tops/Undershirts. It was interesting and not too hard. Initially, we applied for and got a provisional patent. As I came to understand, this patent established when we had the idea for the breastfeeding tank. Next, we hired a patent attorney. He helped us decide which type of patent we needed, find a patent drawing artist, etc. We also had a patent search done to look up "prior art" (other related patents). It was expensive, but worthwhile protecting our idea/product. It was fun looking at the patents for other products I know/have used (like glamour mom tanks,etc.). I encourage other moms out there to look into patents if you have a unique idea.
