Why does diaper rash accompany teething?

Little MaeveMaeve is already teething. She's going gang busters chewing on both fists and drooling like a mad dog. Poor baby has a diaper rash now too. I have noticed that diaper rashes come with teething for my kids. Anybody have a good remedy? I feel so bad that babies have to go through all that. Maeve is very restless nursing the last couple days and I'm thinking it's the combo of the teething and rash. I'm noticing that even breastfeeding doesn't comfort her right now. I think the rash is really sensitive to anything in her diaper. My plan so far has included using the Lansinoh on the rash, increasing my baby wearing and changing her diaper as much as possible to keep her skin dry....Amy "You nurse to give your baby the best, let Modest Middles help you look great doing it!" Have you ever used desitin or another diaper cream with zinc. In my experience diaper creams with zince are good when the diaper rash is persistent.
Lansinoh is a good barrier cream though.
