Breastfeeding Celebrities--They've discovered gold!

I think we all hear, usually when our pregnant bellies are swollen to maximum capacity, that if you nurse the baby weight will fly off! There are plenty of scientific studies to support that comment as breastfeeding requires us moms to burn significantly more calories than moms who formula feed. Celebrities seem to be joining the breastfeeding bandwagon. They've been making PSAs (check out the one called "Whip em out" -it's hilarious), giving interviews and acting like they've discovered gold: Breastmilk is a natural/organic fountain of health for mom and baby---weightloss is a great bonus.
Shake it with the funnest way to get your exercise on...Zumba!
As a mom who is nursing her fifth baby, I've definitely tested the hypothesis that nursing aids weightloss and can say, in general, it's true. I seem to loose all but the last 5-10 pounds by nursing alone. In the past, I've done Weight Watchers and been successful. After this last baby, Maeve, I have really tried to help my family eat healthy with me. It's a work in progress, but we're getting there. Five months out, I still have a little under 10 pounds to go. I see all these celebrities, like Bethenny Frankel and Gissell, and the weight seems to go without effort. While they might just be lucky, I think it's more likely a combo of their genetics, healthy eating habits and exercise routine. I have been flaking out on exercise since my oldest was born in 2002. I kept telling myself that I was getting enough exercise chasing the kids. Well no more! I decided that this body deserves better. Let's face it, five kids in eight years is a lot to ask. I just finished my first Zumba class. It felt GREAT! I had fun and I sweated like a pig. The teacher, Julie, was like the energizer bunny dipped in salsa. So much fun and created an environment where my lack of coordination and rhythm didn't seem to matter. I shook it with the best of them! I figure if I do this class a couple times a week the extra baby weight will boogey right off and I might get fit and healthy too! Go Zumba!...Amy..."You nurse to give your baby the best, let Modest Middles help you look great doing it!"
